April 21 Google announced Mobile-friendly updates that ultimately boost mobile search rankings to sites that are designed as mobile-friendly. Nicknamed “Mobilegeddon” by some analysts, webmasters and designers are hopefully scrabbling to verify that the pages on the sites they’ve created adhere to these new updates. With this drastic change to mobile search, there’s a lot of lessons Google is indirectly pushing with this update.

Whether your audience is the media or consumers, the vast majority of people are consuming information from a mobile device, primarily smartphones, which this update directly affects. According to the Pew Research Center, 64% of Americans own a smartphone, and Mobile now exceeds the PC for internet use.
